(Leave 9:00 AM, return approx. 7:00 PM)
Meet at 9:00 AM at Starbuck’s in El Dorado Hills (south side of Hwy 50 across from the new Long’s Drugs.)
Hwy 50 to South Lake Tahoe, then north on Hwy 89.
We’ll stop at Taylor Creek Park and walk the Rainbow trail. This is a flat, easy paved/wood trail that takes you through a meadow, and along Taylor Creek where you’ll see (and be close enough to touch) spawning salmon. The trail includes an underground river cut-away, where you’ll see beneath the river’s surface. Salmon, trout and crayfish will be inches from your nose.
Next, we’ll head to the Rubicon and take the Barker Loop and Rubicon spur to the overlook, which is an easy to moderate trail with terrific scenery. This should take about 3-4 hours (depending on stops, etc..) We can stop at Miller or Richardson Lake for lunch, relaxation, fishing, canoeing, etc...
After that, we’ll head back down the hill stopping at “Spankys” on Forni Rd for pizza.
I’ve checked – no “marathon” road closure this weekend!
